About

NIGEL PARRY — PHOTOGRAPHER

Over a career spanning more than thirty years, Nigel Parry has become one of the most sought-after and respected portrait photographers in the world. His celebrity portraits—ranging from acclaimed actors and world leaders to artists, musicians, and figures of global influence—are celebrated for their clarity, intimacy, and narrative depth. Equally, his work with real people demonstrates the same skill: the ability to direct, observe, and reveal the essence of each subject, capturing both personality and story with precision and sensitivity.

Beginning his career in London in 1988, Parry moved to New York City in 1994, where his images quickly appeared in Vanity Fair, The New York Times Magazine, Esquire, Garden & Gun, as well as key art, movie posters, and advertising campaigns seen worldwide. His portraits are known for their instinctive compositional authority, empathetic direction, and the rare ability to make every subject feel both present and revealed.

Parry’s work has earned accolades including The European Magazine Award, the ASME Portrait Award, Hasselblad Master Photographer, Communication Arts, Graphis, PDN, the Art Directors Club, International Photography Awards, and American Photography, amongst others. His photographs have been exhibited internationally at the National Portrait Gallery, the National Galleries of Scotland, the National Museum of Film and Photography, Le Festival Pour l’Image in Perpignan, the NY Photo Festival, and he became the first portrait photographer invited to exhibit at the Cannes Film Festival. His work is held in the permanent collection of the National Portrait Gallery and in private collections around the world.

Committed to giving back, Parry has collaborated with the Starlight Foundation and Operation Smile, documenting humanitarian missions across Asia and South America to raise awareness and support for children in need.

In recent years, Parry has returned to landscape photography, a lifelong passion. His landscapes are meditative and atmospheric, capturing light, texture, and mood with the same instinct and visual intelligence that define his portrait work, revealing a contemplative, deeply personal side of his artistry.

His monographs—Sharp, Precious, Blunt, and A Journey of Smiles—have received international acclaim, accompanied by exhibitions that further cement his reputation as a master of portraiture.

Select portraits and landscapes are available as limited-edition fine art prints, produced to museum standards using archival materials to preserve tonal depth, detail, and longevity. Collectors, institutions, and private clients may inquire directly for availability and guidance.

Nigel Parry lives in Charleston, South Carolina, where he continues to create portrait and landscape work with clarity, discipline, and the distinctive vision that have established him as one of the most iconic photographers of his generation.
